Week #10: Podcasts and Audio

The video for this week gave me a headache with his loud answers, explanations, and nonsense. Honestly podcasts do not interest me. They remind me of the radio era when families used to sit in front of a radio and just listen to shows, news, etc. I believe radio still holds its purpose for entertainment, but there is more music. I do not mind the news either, but the podcasts are just weird and that is my opinion.

Audio books: "The main difference between books on tape and an audio book is that audio books can be down loaded (I thought downloaded was one word?) from a vendor or provider via the Internet." Then why do some staff call books on CD audio books? After Learn 2.0 they won't I just know it.

I did find a audio book from our catalog "French: The Short Course". I have not downloaded it yet, but plan to do it when I get my brand new mp3 player. I also looked at NetLibrary and plan do download some French audio books. I plan to learn a little French this summer and hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to hold a conversation in French. I am so glad NetLibrary has many French audio books because it will help me with my goal. I basically told you that I was going to use my mp3 player for learning French, but I am also going to use it to listen to music. You have to be listening to music when you're working out...otherwise it would be boring and no fun.

This is the last week of Learn 2.0 this means I did it! I am proud of myself and I will be receiving an mp3. Go me!

Week #9: Digital Music

Digital Rights management:
I believe that if you paid for the music you are entitled to transfer it to your computer, ipod, etc. I understand that is the only way music bands get their money, but if they really want the "fans" or consumers to enjoy their work, then why not let them take their music to whereever they please? I think that as long as you do not modify the work of the band/artist the consumer is entitled to their rights as a consumer (to enjoy the music however they please).

Liveplasma:
This website was AMAZING. I found out that my all time favorite band Intocable has a new album coming out soon! This website also lets you see all the CDs your band/artist has made throughout their careers. It also lets you see which other bands/artists sound the same.

Last.fm:
This is a GREAT website! It is a radio online and it's FREE! I just liked the radio part.

Music Strands:
In this website you can hear parts of a music songs. This is awesome because you can actually preview a CD before buying it.

Upto11.net:
I did not spend more than 10 seconds on this website because of the loud colors. Not appealing at all. I can't really inform you about this site because it hurt my eyes and couldn't navigate it.

Week #8: Sharing Information

Let me start by commenting on that Flickr in Hawaii. I thought that video was creepy and weird. Reasons:

1. The camera man's laugh was creepy


2. People in video just looking at cameras while being video taped


3. "Party" seemed to be in the middle of some random place

These people must be either rich or must do a whole lot of nothing to have all the time in the world to be on flickr. They also said that they met each other through the website...what ever happened to do not talk to strangers on the Internet or meet them in person?

I thought Creative Commons Attribution License is something great! That way no one can steal your work. Don't you just hate when some else takes your credit? I would.

Now about my learning with Learn 2.0:

I do like online learning, but to some extent. When you are doing an online course, if you do not understand something or know how to do something, you wish that you had someone there to guide you for a better understanding or help you through a process rather than having to e-mail someone and then have them email you back. Sometimes this e-mailing will last a while if the other person does not understand what you are trying to say. Because of this that is why we were encouraged to help one another or form groups. I have offered help to some of my co-workers here at the branch. So far no one has helped me with Learn 2.0 because it is self-explanatory. Unfortunately here at the branch it is hard to form a Learn 2.0 team because we are so busy. The only time I did reach out to another location was when I called the IS department because I was having problems with the Meez exercise. (We had to update our Java.)

GIMP is cool

I was checking out GIMP yesterday and this is what I made. Pretty cool,huh? I recommend that all of you try GIMP because you can do a lot of neat things with the program. By the way, you can download this program for FREE from www.gimp.org .You can download it for Windows and MAC.

This is what I call hunting! There isn't anything more pleasant than having a good hunt.

Don't get me wrong I am an animal lover also, but if that animal was alive it could hurt people.

Week #7: Fun Stuff

I was eager to try the Trainco web 2.0 application, but was disappointed. It was less than what I expected. Dogster and Caster were cute websites. I would like to post my dog's pictures there, but I know I will not because I am such a busy person. (Southeast is busy all the time.) I really liked Blufr it is a good way to learn new and interesting facts a day. The Puzzle Player seemed okay, but I wasn't able to play any games because our staff computers are missing Adobe Flash Player. There was a web 2.0 application for my favorite hobby, but there was also a membership fee on the one I found so I did not bother.

Week 6:Library Thing

My favorite library technology is the Internet because without it I couldn't explore websites, databases, etc. I do not have a favorite library web 2.0 library application because if I did then I would sound dorky. (I already work for the library so my friends think that already makes me a dork, but I don't care what they say working for the library is great!) I did find WikiMapia interesting because it lets you see an aerial view of cities, your own home, the library, etc. It kind of reminds me of Google Earth, but these programs are not the same you should check it out to see what I mean. I also liked Popurls because it gives you the popular URLs to the latest web buzz. I am a heading ready so this is great! I also liked Propsmart it makes it so easy to find homes for sale. Propsmart gives you nationwide listing making it easier to find a home other than just your city or state.

Week 4:Web 2.0 Defined

I was not too surprised that OCLS had a myspace account because I was already aware of that, but I really liked the fact that OCLS has it. Before I went onto the myspace account I thought it would be boring, but I was totally wrong. I really loved the teen video they have there. I think having OCLS on myspace is an awesome idea because it helps us promote library functions. I have used Youtube before, but today I learned who the founders were and how much money they sold their business for. Young and rich...don't we all have that dream. Hey at least someone did it and I am proud of them. My favorite application was SEOmoz because it lets you know what websites rank in the top three for a specific category. I liked the game category. I clicked on the first place link under game and I had a blast. Everyone should check it out. There are tons of games...so get gaming. The Web 2.0 video was great, but it went a little fast for me.

Week 3: Finding Information

RSS Feeds:
For the RSS feeds I subscribed to Double-Tongued Dictionary Entries, Dictionary.com Word of the Day, Billboards, Library Leader, Technology @ OCLS, and others. All of the topics are interesting.

Grokker:
For the Grokker I searched colleges and the map view was weird at first, but then I realized that it was helpful because it broke colleges down to categories; if you clicked on a category you could see that there were subcategories within the categories. (Talk about a visual aid). I also realized that most of the links were linked to Wikipedia. (Although Wikipedia may seem professional my college professor who has his PHD told me to not trust Wikipedia because any one can edit the data.)

Learning Style Preference:
I am glad to see that we kind of discuss Howard Gardner and his theory of Multiple Intelligences. I can say that I have more than one learning style. According to Howard Gardner I am a bodily-kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and linguistic learner. I learn when I use more of my 5 senses. (As a future educator, I learned this in one of my education classes that this was true.)

Is Learn 2.0 Working:
Learn 2.0 is working for me because I can hear, see, and actually complete a mini exercise just like in my computer classes I teach. I know that two students may have different learning styles and by implementing auditory, visual, and kinesthetic the learner is getting the information three times making it more likely for the students to retain the information for future use.
